A device has a 100-g wooden shuttle that is pulled horizontally along a fixed frictionless wooden rail by an elastic band. The shuttle is released when the elastic band has 6.4 N tension at a [img>35ยบ angle. What is the magnitude of the initial acceleration of the shuttle?
a.  64 m/s

b.  37 m/s2

c.  52 m/s2

d.  62 m/s2

ok c:

100 g = 0.1 kg

At moment just before the release, Net force in horizontal direction will be,

= Tension in elastic band *cos(45 degree)

Now initial acceleration = horizontal force/mass [since motion is restricted in y direction]

= 6.4 cos(45 degrees) /( 0.1)

=45.25 m/s^2

weird ... is not in the answers choices

Answer choice is incorrect... i have checked it from other sources as well....But at the same time if angle is 35 degrees then you will have 54 m/s^2 as answer.
