Capital for your Police Organization week 4 discussion 2 (Nicole)
What method of fund raising would you recommend for a police agency to raise
capital? Do you think that it is acceptable for police departments to initiate
and/or fundraise in the community? Does this compromise the ethics of the department?
Could it create a community sentiment of entitlement?
Our discussion the individuals list
references good and bad of post
police departments across the United States participate in and sponsor fund
raising activities all the time. Most of the time your hear of the police
fundraising for a fallen officers family, or a ill police officer, or even a
sick police officers child or spouse, helping to raise money for their medical
Police departments also hold fundraisers for much needed equipment.
Fundraisers such as raffles, barbecues, send someone to jail for an hour,
or a doughnut eating contests would be easy, fun, fundraisers. These
types of fundraising events would be acceptable for police departments to
initiate. This does not compromise the ethics of the department.
What is an unacceptable and would definitely compromise the ethics within
the police department would be by taking private donations from businesses,
private citizens and other organizations. Taking private donations of
those types mentioned could and probably would create a sense of entitlement
for those personnel. They could or would think they can get away with
more because they donated to the police department.
