The Articles of Confederation was the first written constitution of the United States, which,
despite the positive impact it created, led to the development of a weak central government where
most of the power was in the hands of the government but with the development of the United States
Constitution, the weaknesses imposed by the confederation were managed. For instance, the founding
articles dictated that for its amendment, there would have to be at least fifty states agreeing to its
adjustment, whereby a single state holding out would lead to nullification of the amendment proposal,
but the constitution critiqued the articles stating that only three-quarters of the states would be needed
to approve the amendment. Earlier on, congress had no power to coin money, making each state
develop its currency, and this made it difficult to raise funds at the federal level to pay off national
debts, but the new constitution created taxation power that helped regulate the economy by creating a
common currency alleviating national debt issues while promoting national equity and peace.
Also, after the adoption of the articles of confederation, it became difficult for the states
to raise resources, control trade, and pay for imports which led to chaos, but the new constitution
lessened the issues with the introduction of a common currency easy to tax and control from all the
