The height h, in feet, of a golf ball t seconds after it has been hit is given by the equation  h = −16t2 + 62t.  How many seconds after the ball is hit will the height of the ball be 42 feet? Round answers to nearest hundredth.

 h = −16t2 + 62t.

h=42 

42= −16t2 + 62t

-16t^2 + 62t -42 = 0

-8t^2 + 31t - 21 = 0

 delta = 31²- 672 =  961 - 672 = 289 > 0

so : t1 = (-31 - 1.002 )/(-16) =  2.0005

or   t2= (-31 + 1.002 )/(-16) =  1.87


So t = 2 s
