Subtracting an expression is equivalent to adding the opposite of a positive.

This is related to the whole "plus and adjust" concept. Subtracting negative expressions is like adding them, so subtraction is like adding the opposite of a positive.

What is the value of y, in terms of x, if x + y = 15?

Apr 26th, 2015

Y = 15 - x.

This is found by subtracting x from both sides in order to get y alone. (X - X = 0, just as 1 - 1 =0)
