Description
The Industrial Revolution transformed American life in ways that the authors of the U.S. Constitution could not have predicted. Changes to the nature of work, pay, industry, and business created new challenges for Americans, and in turn, the federal government. The various responses by the federal government to new social and economic realities reflected the enormity of the changes occurring in our country at the time, as well as certain underlying values that informed these decisions.
Utilizing the decisions made by the U.S. Supreme Court in U.S. v. E.C. Knight Co. and Lochner v. New York, in no more than 2 pages describe how the outcome of each case reflected specific changes caused by the Industrial Revolution. In other words, what do these decisions tell you about some of the social and economic changes brought about by the Industrial Revolution?
