What does it mean when it says to assume that the mean and stardard deviation is the same when n is given trying to find a confidence interval

You have 2 sets of samples with different n. You calculate the mean by the usual formula of statistics (mean = expected value (x_n),   std dev = sqrt(expected value (mean-x_n)^2)). They say that you should assume the mean and std. dev came to be similar: mean(sample 1)=mean (sample 2), std. dev(sample 1)=std. dev(sample 2).
