finding surface area

also in the form of pi an regular numbers

Nov 16th, 2017

Surface area is calculated by adding together the area of each of the sides.  The cylinder has 3 sides, two circular bases and 1 rectangle.

Area of cirlce = pi*(d/2)^2 = pi * (16/2)^2 = pi *8^2 = 64 pi

Area of rectangle = pi*d*h = pi* 16 * 40 = 640 pi

Surface area = 2* area of circle + area of rectangle

Surface area = 2 * 64 pi + 640 pi = 128 pi + 640 pi = 768 pi

Volume of a sphere is an equation that you will need to memorize.

Volume of a sphere =4 / 3 * pi * r^3

V = 4/3 * pi * 36^3

V = 4/3* 46656*pi

V = 62208 pi
