Speed downstream=(x+y)mph

  So, x+y=24  ……………(1)

Speed upstream=(x-y)mph

Time taken to go 60 miles=60/(x-y)=6

  So, x-y=10 ………………(2)

Adding eq (1) and (2)

2x=34

x=17 mph

So y=7 mph
