Is 2 raised to (x+5) or 2 raised to x in the first term?

Apr 27th, 2015

I am assuming 2 is  raised to (x+5) .Please let me know if 2 is raised to only x in the first term.

64 can be written as 2^6

(2^(x+5))(2^x) = 2^6

Since the bases are equal now on either side, equate the exponents.

(x+5) x =6

x^2+5x-6 =0

(x+6) (x-1) =0

x = -6 or 1

Please let me know if you have any other questions and best me if you are satisfactory.
