No Impact Man is a documentary by Colin Beavan. In this documentary Beavan takes us
through his journey together with his wife and daughter of a year with no impact on the
environment. The film is in the interest of the worry of Beavan about the deteriorating climate in
the world. He therefore decides to make a change. The documentary highlights his struggles and
challenges throughout that year where he intends not to make any adverse effect on the
environment. In an aim of having no impact, the family needed to make several sacrifices which
exclude using of electricity, forfeiting means of transport that use fossil fuel and not buying new
products. They were also not to buy bottled water and takeaway food (www.imdb.com).
The sacrifices are evident since a book on the same topic is made from recycled papers
and produced by biogas energy. The family was resistant to the start of the project but embraced
it with time. There are a number of important points that need to be noted from the project by
Beavan and his wife. First of all, the sacrifice made by the family cannot be ignored. Being
environmental friendly has come at a cost for the family. Beavan has banned takeaway foods and
shopping for other items. His wife misses the shopping. They are also not using electricity which
is a bit challenging since the alternative sources of energy are more likely to fail than electricity.
