BACKGROUND PAPER
ON
HOW LOGISTICS ALIGN TO SUPPORT NATIONAL,
MILITARY, AND AIRPOWER STRATEGY

Logistics is one of the most important aspects used to ensure that military missions are a success.
Logistics are planned to help the military run operations until the mission is accomplished or
redeployment is done. The power of the military to contain a threat is through planning, gaining
access, and delivering forces and materials to the place where the threat is. These are all made
possible by proper logistic planning and implementation. The leaders of the military conduct
integrated logistics operation on a global scale and this requires total force. The leaders require
help from the Reserve and Active Component, the Department of Defense, and other support
contracted. The joint operations also include other governmental organizations, multinational
forces, and non-governmental organizations. Joint logistics focuses on three aspects that influence
mission success that is; the visibility of the Joint Logistics Enterprise, precise and rapid response,
and unity of effort (Acero et al,2019). The logistics in place influence mission success in the areas
of global integration, innovation, war readiness, strengthening of alliance and partner networks,
and competition below armed conflict. Sustained joint logistics is made possible by controlling
resources, applying basic principles, and managing capabilities. Logisticians make use of the
principles of logistics to analyze if the logistics are effective for planning and execution. This is
done during all the phases of military operations.
The logistics function provides a guideline to enhance decision-making, effectively synchronizing
and allocating resources. This optimizes the joint logistics processes of the military. The functions
involved in logistics are supply, deployment and distribution, logistic services, maintenance,
engineering, operational contract support, and joint health services.

The supply function is responsible for supply chain operations and managing the supply of
common commodities for the military forces. Supply operations require collaboration for them to
run smoothly. The maintenance function is responsible for maintaining field and depot
maintenance. The systems are maintained to ensure they are available and reliable. The
deployment and distribution function of logistics ensures that the military can deploy, executes,
and maintain operations worldwide. This is the most important function in logistics. Logistic
services enable the government to provide and sustain the military forces. Logistic services
include; food, water, contingency base services, and hygiene services. The Operation Contract
support function ensures that the military ...
