A. A beaker contains 400. mL of 0.160 M HNO3. What volume of 0.295 M KOH solution is needed to exactly neutralize the acid?

B.A beaker contains 35.0 mL of 0.200 M HCl solution. A few drops of phenolphthalein is added to the solution. How many milliliters of 0.700 M NaOH should be added to exactly neutralize the HCl solution in the beaker

a) M1V1 = M2V2 

     400 x 0.160 = 0.295 x V(KOH) 

V(KOH) = 216.94 mL

b)     M1V1 = M2V2 

        35.0 x 0.2 = 0.7 V(HCl) 

  V(HCl) = 10 mL
