Modern research defines creativity as the representation of something new, different and
innovative1. Creativity is the process used to come up with solutions for problems that have not
yet been solved in the society. Also, the identification and exploration of gaps and opportunities
can define creativity whether in art, technology or business. For something or someone to be
defined as creative, there must be a tangible product that is the evidence of the creative process
and the creative person2. This essay explores the definition of the movement of modernism, its
correlation with creativity, the creative forces behind it and the factors that promote creativity in
modernism.
The modernist movement takes place from the beginning of the twentieth century to end
of the World War II in 19453. In lay terms, modernism is the modern practices, thoughts, and
way of life. The beginning of modernism marks the breaking of traditional practices, thoughts,
and ways of doing things. Modernism majorly impacts the art and technology sectors especially

with the onset of the First and Second World Wars. Moreover, the new ways of life see the
rejection of the European culture and the acceptance of a new Western culture. The early
twentieth century coincides with groundbreaking theories and discoveries in science and the arts,
