Estimate length, width, height of a bedroom. If bedroom empty volume is 864 cubic meters/Length and width are same/Height is half length and width, What are dimensions of the bedroom?
Volume of the room is L*W*H and it equals 864. Since we know L=W and H= 1/2 L, we can change the formula to..
L * L * 0.5L = 864
2.5L^3 = 864
Divide by 2.5; L^3 = 345.6
Cube-root both sides: L = 7
So the room is 7M (length) by 7M (width) by 3.5M (high)
I saw you reposted. Was there something wrong?
This is a 5th grade question. Is there a way to solve it without cubed roots?
I wasn't sure I posted it right the first time! Ooops!
oh.
I guess I was wrong on the original problem anyway. The way I would do it for a 5th grader is just plug numbers in until we get something that works.
10x10x5 = 500
12x12x6 = 864 (*** This would be the answer ***)
That was a big help to plug in numbers. Thanks! I would not have thought of that!
