The intent of this experiment is to investigate the functions of an oscilloscope. The
equipment finds wide applications in the fields of physics and engineering. Their effectiveness in
measuring different signals and also the fact that they can handle multiple functions is probably
what has made them popular and given them an advantage over other meters.
Introduction
While there are several other meters that have been specifically created to measure
currents and voltages such as the ammeter and the voltmeter, the oscilloscope still remains an
important instrument in measuring the above parameters. There are so many reasons as to this,
but the main one is that the oscilloscope gives a clear picture of the type of current or voltage one
is dealing with. For instance, it not only gives one the voltage level but also shows the waveform
of the voltage being measured. This way, one can determine whether it is alternating or direct.
Furthermore, the oscilloscope gives a clear picture of the frequency of the parameter being
measured as one can easily measure it. Apart from all these, the oscilloscope has many other
functions that aren’t consistent with this experiment. However, it is worth mentioning that its
multiple functionalities are probably what makes it a viable instrument up to date.
