Airplane speed - wind speed = 600/5 = 120 mph. Airplane speed + wind speed = 600/1 = 600 mph. Solve the system: x + wind = 600 x - wind = 120 so 2x = 720 and x = 360 so the speed of the plane is 360 and that of the wind is 240.
