According to Wedding & Corsini (2018), an integrative counselor believes that no single
therapeutic approach can help a client in a situation. As an integrative counselor because I think
a combination of approaches is critical in counseling. I intend to use different theories and
clinical techniques in my counseling sessions to help a client. I try to understand my clients and
then use different elements of different approaches to help clients explore and cope with their
problems. Additionally, I see every client differently and use different approaches to treat them.
My philosophy is that every client who walks through my agency office's door is different;
therefore, what works for one client might not work for another. Therefore, as an integrative
counselor, I usually choose the right approach for every client and sometimes use a combination
of theories to treat a particular client. However, the combination of those theories or approaches
has to be different from any other client.
