Consider reasons for income inequality:

  • education, which enables the better-educated to get higher-paying job
  • Identify one of these causes of income inequality and explain why you think it is predominant, for example, worker’s amount of education; discrimination based on race, gender, age, religion, intellectual ability, physical handicap; and/or the monopoly power held by certain groups of people.

Income inequality happens on a daily basis.  I believe that the most predominant discrimination today would be the intellectual ability of an individual.  As a better education has the possibility to get one a better job, I believe that other qualities do as well.  For example, people are book smart, others are street smart.  You could go to school for engineering and get a high paying job working for a car company with no problems.  However, someone who does not have a degree in engineering, but has been around it their entire life does not have the capability of obtaining the same kind of job because they don't have the label of a degree attached to their name.  Basing work on an intellectual level has to be able to take both, street and book smarts in to consideration.
