Explain why the myth that "athletes need additional protein" is not true. What considerations for protein might the vegetarian or "vegan" athlete have to make. What risks are there for the over-consumption of protein.

It is not a myth - people (men and women) who engage in a lot of anaerobic activity such as sports burn lots of muscle, and the body needs protein (whether it is animal or vegetable protein is up to the individual) to replace this muscle mass that is lost.
