In this assignment, apply what you have learned in this course to analyze a report of a recently paroled offender.

Click here to download the forensic psychology and risk assessment report.

Tasks:

Evaluate the forensic psychology and risk assessment report and create an 8- to 10-page essay in a Microsoft Word document addressing the following:

  • Identify and describe the role and purpose of the report. Comment on whether the evaluation was or was not necessary. State the reasons for your opinion.
  • Apply considerations of any information or sections that you found missing in the report as well as information that you found to be not relevant, i.e., elements that should have been omitted. In other words, what could have been added to or excluded from the report?
  • Discuss the ways in which cultural sensitivity and aspects of diversity were addressed in the report, including any ways in which the report could be made more culturally sensitive and include greater considerations of elements of diversity.
  • Identify and describe at least two additional psychological assessments or measures that you would have administered to obtain additional relevant information for the report. Feel free to list more than two as appropriate. Be sure to also consider cultural implications of the tests which you select.
  • Explain how you would use the recommendations in the report to assist in the development of a treatment plan.
  • Discuss in what capacity the report may be used in alternative venues. For example, can this report be utilized by other professionals in the future? If so, in what capacity?
  • Discuss the overall quality and readability of this report, including a scholarly critique of the writing.

As you evaluate the report be sure to avoid using the word “I” in formal writing. Remember, the reader of your assignment will know it is your voice since you are the author of your paper. Also, consider the difference between the following two statements, “I think the report needed to have included . . .” and “The report needed to have included . . .” The first statement has some redundancy by the writer’s use of the word “I,” whereas the second statement displays greater confidence.

Your essay should rely upon at least seven scholarly resources from the professional literature that are cited in APA format. The literature may include the online library resources; relevant textbooks; peer-reviewed journal articles; and websites created by professional organizations, agencies, or institutions (.edu or .gov).

Role and Purpose
The role and purpose of this forensic psychological and risk assessment report is to provide a
professional opinion to the Board of Parole on the suitability of his current situation to parole and
the effect that he would have on the community, once released for parole. The evaluation report
detailed helps give the former and current presentation of Mr. Smith. The way he presents
himself in terms of his current mental status, the previous and current institutional programming,
his self assessment, his parole plans once released, and previous and current substance abuse
effects have been taken into great consideration to help inform on the final decision. These points
are considered to help make a decision on the suitability of the inmate to parole to ensure that no
point is left out. These points have undergone analysis to help inform on the extents to which the
person will go to ensure that he does not present harm to his community in any way and anyone
in his way. It starts with conducting an examination of whether or not he is of harm to those he
interacts with within the correctional facility, the level of participation in the programs assigned
as well as how active he is in being a participant in these programs (O’Donohue & Levensky,
2004).
At the end of the interview conducted by Jane Doe, the psychologist has then used the
information gathered from the information presented during the evaluation as well as that
provided during the last two evaluations by the other two psychologists to inform the
psychologist’s thoughts on whether or not release for parole is a good idea given the indications
in the evaluation report. The evaluation report is in every way an important document to be
presented given the past behaviors of the inmate that got him into trouble in the first place. It
helps inform the decision on whether or not the inmate has enough information backing him for
the release on parole. The information provided will help the Parole Board know if the

information provided in the report is enough to allow his release and this is based on whether or
not he is of harm to his community and those around him. If not, then it is possible to have parole
but if he is of harm to the community, then it is only prudent and fair to allow him to stay within
the correctional facility so that he can gain control over his symptoms as well as the addiction to
alcohol abuse (Bush, Connell, & Denney, 2006).
Inclusions/Exclusions from Report
Some sections of the report are missing. One of these sections is the one about the full
consideration of the needs of the offender which ought to be equality based. This ought to be the
guidance section so that the psychologist can ensure that the Parole Board takes into
consideration that all offenders ought to be given an equal set of needs and should be treated
equally, taking into consideration the type of offense that they have been involved in.
