The four basic principles of research anatomy, beneficence, non-maleficence, and justice
have played a very important role in the field of medical ethics, and are essential in
comprehending the approach used for ethical assessment in healthy service.
Autonomy can be described as the freedom given to each prospective participant in a
research to make his, or her own non-influenced decisions. This principle requires that extra care
should be taken to protect potentially vulnerable prospective individuals such children, elderly,
and convicts (Oliver, 2010). These people may not be capable of fully comprehending the
information that would enable them make well informed decision. Beneficence requires the
researcher to ensure that the participants do not come to any harm. The risks should be
minimized as much as possible while the possible benefits are maximized.
Justice implies that participants should not be selected with bias. They should be no
selection based on economic status, social status, or the race unless the objective of the
experiment specifies the parameters. Non-maleficence requires that the researchers should not
