Description

You will be required to complete four (4) 4-5-page reflection on the readings. For these reflection, you will use the frame/theories studied for the 2-3 week period and apply them to some facet, dynamic, issue or problem that you are seeing in your own organization. You should describe the issue observed and then offer your interpretation of what is happening and why, based upon the perspectives/frames from the readings. Your 4 reflections are centered on: 1) Structural/Bureaucratic frames; 2) Collegial/Human Resource frames; 3) Political frames; and 4) Cultural/Symbolic frames.

This is both a way for me to gauge your level of understanding, and a way for you to begin the process of active reflection and meaning-making. As higher education professionals, engaging in regular active reflection about our work, our students, our campuses is one mechanism for professional growth and development. These reflections offer you a way to connect theory to practice in a more formal and structured way.

this time you have to focus on Cultural/Symbolic frames.

i will send you the document shortly , thank you

Article Summary: ‘Doing Away with Departments’
There has been an enrollment decline at the Southern Illinois University and this is the
major source of the university’s financial problems. The chancellor has now decided to eliminate
all the departments across the institution but this move is being criticized and objected to by most
faculty members who are the university professors. David Anthony, the English department chair
says that this idea lacks any supporting model, evidence or precedent and that is why they are
opposed to it. The chancellor is for the position that the cash flow problems have to be solved but
this will have to necessitate restructuring (Flaherty, 2017). The professors agreed to restructure
until the chancellor came back last month and told them the exact nature of restructuring he
meant. He wants the departments dissolved into multiprogram schools that would have directors
as their heads. The schools will them be under deans. The colleges will have schools under them
but will not have departments to support them. There will still be programs, courses, and majors
in the relevant schools as well (Flaherty, 2017).
The decision was arrived at after the loss of a significant number of freshmen within the
last three years and the reasons given for this are that the university is no longer offering
distinctive programs that are relevant for students in the contemporary society. This has led to
students finding the programs irrelevant and leaving the institution. Another cause of this trend
as given by the chancellor is the university’s bureaucratic system...
