McDonaldization is a word created by George Ritzer to mean the process by which
the notions of the fast-food restaurant are coming to govern more and more areas of the
American society including the rest of the world (Ritzer, 1993). Essentially one rationalizes a
task and separates it into smaller portions to make it faster, more efficient, and cheaper. The
majority of fast-foods joints work in this manner. Frozen preformed fries, burger, and the
food is distributed from a big shop somewhere, where on the same truck, pre-chopped
tomatoes, lettuce, and onions come in something that is similar to a clear garbage bag. No
actual cooking is taking place, only beeps and timers that inform the employee when
everything is prepared. One individual gets your order and cash, while the other drops the
