Two factory plants are making TV panels. Yesterday, Plant A produced
 fewer panels than Plant B did. Two percent of the panels from Plant A and
 of the panels from Plant B were defective. How many panels did Plant A produce, if the two plants together produced
defective panels?

number of panels produced by planet A :

Let x be the number of panels produced by the plant A. Then this plant produced 2% of x, that is, 0.02x defective panels. Plant B produced 800 - 0.02x defective panels or 3% of its total production. So, plant B produced (800 - 0.02x)/0.03 panels or x + 5000. We get the following equation:

(800 - 0.02x)/0.03 = x + 5000                            multiply both sides by 0.03

800 - 0.02x = 0.03(x + 5000)

800 - 0.02x = 0.03x + 150

(0.02 + 0.03)x = 800 - 150

0.05x = 650, and x = 650/0.05 = 13000

Answer: The plant A produced 13000 panels.
