1. In the early part of the semester, you read either Hard Times or Pride and Prejudice.
Choose a character from the novel you read. Discuss how the character grows and
changes and what these changes suggest about the theme in work. Use details from the
novel to support your ideas. Write your response in two or three well-developed
paragraphs.
Pride and Prejudice is romance story focusing on the growth and development of Elizabeth
Bennet. The first publication of the story occurred in 1813. The author of the novel is Jane
Austen. Elizabeth learns to appreciate the difference between essential and superficial. He also
learns how to make hasty judgments.

The story focuses on themes of education, money,

marriage, and manners in the British Regency.
Bennet has five daughters and owns an entitled property. None of the girls can inherit the
property. Bennet's wife has no fortune meaning one of Bennet's girls must marry well. It will
help other girls in case of Bennet's death. The story educates readers on the significance of
sharing the love in marriage and not marrying for financial gains. According to the story,
individuals experience social pressure but must make good and effective decisions for the
establishment of a proper marriage.
Mrs. Bennet persuades the husband to visit Mr. Bingly. Bingly is a famous bachelor in the
area. The visit intends to enable Mr. Bingly to marry Bennet's daughter, Jane. Bingly proposes
