   When Archimedes estimated π he gave both upper and lower bounds, instead of just giving an estimate. Use his result to calculate upper and lower bounds for the circumference of the earth. How far apart are your answers?

The diameter of the Earth at the equator is about 8000 miles

 Archimedes: π= 3(10/71) and 3(10/70)

circumference = 2πr

for upper bound =  πd = 30/71*8000 = 3380 miles

for lower bound = πd = 30/70*8000 =3428 miles
