Fake news has always been dispersed across the society since the ancient days. However,
in the current age of the technology, the social media use has increased the rate at which the
news reaches other users. In the ancient days, though there was fake news, the conveyance of the
fake news was not viral as it is today. Today, 88% of young people get the news via social
media. The lack of know-how of the sites that are spreading fake news has impacted the lives of
many youths who do not know how to distinguish the fake news from the real news. It is
necessary to understand how one can identify fake news and the impact of the fake news in the
democracy.
Fake news in most cases, they possess headlines that attract the attention of the readers.
In such cases, an individual should ensure that he reads beyond the headlines further as provided
by the author. Reading the details of the news, one is able to determine the truth of the news and
be able to spot fake news. Moreover, news is written by a particular author. Checking at the
author by looking at the information provided about him/her in the news provided, one will be
able to recognize the authenticity of the news.
