have a maid. She's aware of the poverty surrounding her which I believe is why
she is uncomfortable of the class they represent. Class is also presented to us
when their maid is in love with their neighbor but once the boy finds out
she is a maid and not part of the family, he loses interest.
The systems of government are unsatisfying to the people. The
first part of the book, there seems to be war between the people and Iran's
government. They are fighting for their freedom. It seems as if women lose
their freedom more than men because they have to start wearing veils and
covering themselves up. Education is something the Iran government also
takes away because they don't want their people to be wrongly educated in going

Class is openly demonstrated when the neighbors boy, who is in love with their maid, loses interest in her on realising that she is not a member of the family.
The first part of the book does highlight the government system in Iran of depriving citizens of their fundamental human rights. Citizens are portrayed as constant freedom fighters. Basic rights like education are denied simply because the government fears for their rebellion once they earn it. Women seem to be the most affected since they have to wear veils and cover themselves up.
