the space shuttle performs a retro burn for 3.5 min to go from an orbital velocity of 17,500 mph to re entry velocity of 5000 mph. How many miles does the maneuver require? How many G's do the astronauts experience

1 mph =  1609.3/3600= 0.447 m/s

17500 mph = 7823 m/s

5000 mph = 2235 m/s

a = (7823-2235)/(3.5*60) = 26.61 m/s^2 = 2.72 g

-2ax = Vf^2-Vi^2

x = (7823^2-2235^2)/(2a) = 656.23 miles
