Feleke, Mulatu, and Yesmaw (2015) define a medical error as the most avoidable cause
of harm to a patient in the process of dispensing, administering, or prescribing a drug. A
treatment administration error is the difference between the medication an ailing person receives
and a nurse planned treatment in the initial order. Drug administration mistake is part of the risk
sections of the nursing process, which prevails when discrepancies between the medication
received and the drug therapy intended for a patient occur. Medical errors are more common
among the nurses and can hamper the safety of a patient, cause serious injuries, and to some
extent leading to death.
Discussion
Executing a medical order is an integral part of patient care and the healing process as
well as a major component of nursing performance. Errors in medication can affect the safety of
a patient and cost of treatment endangering a patient and family. Drug administration is the
critical role of a nurse as any errors can have serious complications to a patient. Adverse
outcomes can result from a medical error, which include increased mortality, increased medical
expenses, and lengthened durations of hospitalization. In the health profession, anybody in the
medical team could commit a medical error. However, nursing treatment errors are highly
prevalent attributable to the primary roles of the nurses, which are executing medicine orders and
