Assume that you work at a company considering a more formal project management approach to projects. They ask you, since you are enrolled in this course, to evaluate available software and present your recommendation for a standard project management software package. You can use a company with which you are familiar, you can research a company on the Internet, or you can make up a company in need of project management software.
LO 1: STATEMENT OF PROBLEM (20%)
- Provide information about your company and define their needs in terms of project management software. (Be specific)
- Clearly state the purpose of the paper as an attempt to meet the needs you have identified.
LO 2: DATA COLLECTION (20%)
- Frame the needs as ones that might be met by project management software.
- Research project management software available to meet these needs. You must research at least five different packages.
LO3: DATA ANALYSIS (25%)
- Describe in detail the key attributes and functionalities of the software that you researched in Section 2 and relate this to the needs that you identified in Section 1
- Describe how the different software package options would effectively meet the needs you identified.
LO 4: RESULTS AND CONCLUSION (25%)
- Identify and discuss three specific project management software choices you might make based on the analysis of the software and the company needs as described in Sections 1, 2 & 3
- Explain in detail why you choose these three options and select one for implementation. Justify your software selection by explaining specifically how it will meet the needs you identified in Section 1 and is, therefore, your recommended selection.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM
The company that I work for is called Starbucks Inc. this is a coffee company as well as a
coffee chain house. Currently Starbucks has two hundred and fifty four employees. This
employees include Baristas who are tasked with preparation of beverages, store managers who
manage the stores, machine operators, engineers & many more. With such a large workforce
comprising of people who are supposed to carry out different tasks, it is quite challenging for the
company manager to ensure that company operations go about without hiccups. For this reason
the company is in need of a project management software which is capable of planning &
scheduling, ensuring collaboration amongst the employees, managing company resources as well
as report on problems. In this paper various project management software will be evaluated so as
to determine the best project management software which can meet the need of the company
(Bussing-Burks, 2009).
Starbucks Inc. is in need of a project management software that can plan as well as
schedule day to day activities since they have a very large workforce. The software should be
able to clearly outline every employee’s task working for Starbucks what their roles within the
company are. This will help to reduce misunderstanding since each person will be aware of what
is expected from them ones they get the job. Additionally the software should be able to
prioritize tasks so as to be able to know exactly which tasks should be taken care of first. This
ensures smooth operations within the time resulting in more time being saved. The project
management software should also be able to promote collaboration amongst employees. This is
so since with employees collaborating with one another they can be able to carry out certain
tasks at a faster rate in comparison to when they are not able to collaborate. For this reason the
software should have a feature that can be utilized to share files between employees as well as a

messenger app for communication purposes. Lastly, Starbucks is in need of a project
management software capable of managing company resources since it has vast amounts of
resources. This feature within the software will help to determine when a certain resource has
been used up & it can also be used to manage as well as assign resources (Bussing-Burks, 2009).
DATA COLLECTION
Having ascertained the needs which ought to be met by the software, there is need to
determine a project management software with features needed to meet the needs of the
company. The software capable of meeting all the company needs should have the following
features; file sharing feature to promote collaboration amongst employees who will be able to
easily share their progress with other employees in relation to the tasks they are handling, Gantt
charts which will be utilized by the managers to manage company resources since they would
enable them to know exactly how much resources has been used up at any time, a project
scheduling as well as planning feature which will be utilized by the company manager to plan &
schedule how company activities should be carried out and lastly a calendar of certain company
activities to enhance the planning process and ensure efficient delivery of services to customers
(Dalcher, 2015).
The best type of project management software which can meet the needs of Starbucks
Company is the integrated project management software. This is so since this software combines
