Cultural assessment tools
Organizational culture can broadly be described as the set of critical values, belief system
and norms which are shared by the members of a given organization. The importance of the
organizational culture is to bring together members so that they can understand how to associate
with one another and assist the organization to be able to get used to the external environment
(Daft, 2007). Productivity and top performance are brought about when there is congruence
between the staff and the organizational culture (Cameron & Quinn, 2006). One of the tools that
can be applied in cultural assessment is the Organizational Cultural Assessment Instrument
(OCAI) that was developed by Cameron and Quinn (2006). It assesses how people think, their
values and assumptions and also how they can process various types of information. The tool
applied six main dimensions in its analysis, the dominant cultural features, organizational
leadership, employee management, organizational binding forces or glue, emphasis on strategy,
and success criteria. Out of the six dimensions, two cultural dimensions were developed, the first
was to determine how the company is focused, the second is to look at how the organization
behaved either with flexibility or stability (Cameron & Quinn, 2006).
The other tool is the Global Competence Aptitude Assessment (GCAA) which is an
