The Hawala System
The Hawala system of money transfer has been in use for long by different people.
The report by the financial department of the United States established that this method of
transfer has been used in funding the terrorist activities for long. The mode allows money to
be transferred to clients in different countries within a short time. It is one of the many
Informal Fund Transfer (IFT) methods for local and international transactions.
The transactions are initiated through the service providers referred to as
Hawaladers. Most of the users of this service are immigrants from the developed countries
(El-Qorchi, 2002). The system allows sending funds to any destination even from developing
countries to the developed countries. Every country has its way of referring to the Hawala
funds transfer system.
