how many moles of xenon would be in a container that had a temperature of 35 degrees C and a pressure of 2.99 atm?

Using the ideal gas equation:

PV=nRT

we solve for n

n=PV/RT

let us analyze the given values:

P=2.99 atm

V=no given, let us assume 1 L

R=gas constant=0.0821

T=35 C = 308 K

n= (2.99 x 1)/(0.0821 x 308)

n=0.118 mol Xe

when you don't know the V do you always just put 1 L? or do u have to find it out

There cannot be two unknowns in a problem. You are asked for the number of moles so it is safe to assume that the volume is 1 L
