Unit 5: Middle East Overview
During our fifth unit we will be discovering the musical traditions of The Middle East. We will learn about prominent Arabic and Persian musical instruments and musical traditions, as well as the complex modal system of these ancient cultures. The different “levels” of music that exist in the Middle East will be explored, particularly regarding the relationship between music and religious practices. Finally, we will learn about Umm Kulthum, one of the most famous Arabic singers in history.
You will need to complete the following activities and assignments during this one-week unit:

-Complete and submit the Middle East Study Guide
-Play the Middle East Lecture Presentation, and watch all of the associated Video Clipsfound embedded in the presentation.
