Roosevelt ran for a third term as a Progressive Bull Moose Party candidate in 1912 after losing the nomination from the Republican Party. His not being nominated to the republican Party highlited the growing split within the party between the conservative side and the progressive side of the party. Perot ran as an independent candidate. He was the most succussful third party candidate since Roosevelt in 1912. He won nearly 20 percent of the popular vote nationwide.
