The capacity of an elevator is 12 people or 1932 pounds. The capacity will be exceeded if 12 people have weights greater than 1932/12=161 pounds. Suppose the people have weights than are normally distributed with a mean of 168 lb and a standard deviation of 25 lb. What is the probability if a person is randomly selected his weight will be greater than 161 pounds and what is the probability that randomly selected people will have a mean that is greater than 161 pounds.

we have 12 people

weight 1932

1932/12 = 161

x- u/std deviation

161-168/25 = -0.28

looking at the tables of normal distribution= 0.76

so the prob. is 19/25
