Story

“I’m sorry but I have to quit which will be the best thing for both the team, and I.” I told
the coach, and left his room. The week had started normally with no incident until now. I had
woken up jovial as usual being a morning person I was all over the house as other people slugged
around the house. Things of late had been going my way which was very unusual as I had been
used to having things go wrong. It was a good feeling, and I decided to make most of it while it
lasted. Throughout my life I was used to moving around due to the nature of my father’s job, and
thus really never got to make friend’s, or join teams easily. The fact that I had gotten accepted
into the soccer team was really astonishing. I had really started fitting in well, and was feeling as
part of the team. This is because they included me in their after-school activities, and went out of
their way to make me feel comfortable. Team practice was always the highlight of my day, and
on this day, I was even more eager since I would find out whether I would be part of the team
that would be representing the school in the regional tournament. The day seemed to pass by
slowly, and I could not wait for the practice session to arrive. If I had known what lay in store for
me, I would have dreaded it too. Rather as a matter of fact, I would have ran in the opposite
direction. It was a chilly afternoon which I later believe was meant to be symbolic. The coach
said he had an important announcement to make, and it was for the good of the team. I could feel
my heart palpitating in my ribcage, and the goosebumps developing on my hands were evident. I
felt chills while a drop of sweat trickled down my back. I was really anxious to know what was
going to happen, and my fate. I knew I had to make it in the team if I was to continue enjoying
this new life I had found. The thought of me being axed off was so dreadful that I did not want to
think about it. I had told myself that I was never going back to the life of being a loner. The fate

of my life was practically lying on his hands, and I wish I had made it crystal clear to him. The
bombshell was dropped, and the coach announced I would be the starting striker which led to
John, the captain shoving me, and walking out of the room in process. I could not believe my
ears, and the actions that had followed. I thought that I would be overjoyed at the thought of me
being included in the first team but that joy was short-lived as it came at a cost. A huge cost as a
matter of fact. To me it seemed that nature had a way of giving us what we wanted while at the
same time we are unable to enjoy it. This was simply the beginning of the end for me which I
could read from the faces of my teammates who stood their looking at me. This was due to the
fact the coach saw me as a better striker compared to the current one who also happened to be
the captain of the team, and very popular. This issue was going to be solved today, and the coach
had assured me that he would come up with a formation that would allow us both a place in the
team
Soccer is a team sport which means for the club to be successful all the different players
have to be able to work together both on, and off the pitch. It is usually made up of eleven
players who play different positions. The positions include goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders,
and striker...
