Description

THIS ASSIGNMENT IS BASED ON FOUR OTHER ASSIGNMENTS FROM THE PRIOR WEEKS THAT I'VE ATTACHED. I'VE ALSO ATTACHED THE GRADING CHART.

ALSO THE TEACHER GAVE THE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS: This should not be too much work if you did a good job all class. You need to submit and Word paper and a PowerPoint presentation.Take the papers you did and combine the information. Be real careful about segregating the sections so they are obvious - don't make it one big run on paper - use headings. Be sure to use APA format for the paper and get the 3 citations in. Review the bullet points listed for the paper here and make sure you hit each one.

Use good format guidelines for proper PowerPoint presentations (not too much text per slide) and check that you hit all the bullet points lists for the presentation. You can go over on slides a little if you need to and feel free to use the notes sections for supporting content rather than cram it all on the slide.Scenario: You are researching a business development idea for your company. You have been preparing components of the project plan throughout this course. You will now pull together the four components completed in the previous weeks into a final project plan for presentation to the board of directors of your organization. The business development idea will be focused on an IT project that will improve or change your current business model to create more value for your company and its customers.

Synthesize the individual assignment deliverables from Weeks 1 through 4, including instructor corrections and recommendations.

Create an Information Technology (IT) project plan in Microsoft® Word in a minimum of 2,100 words, including an introduction and conclusion, and include the following:

  • The project proposal summary that you created in Week 1, updated with recommendations and corrections from your instructor
  • Your data communications plan and project budget from Week 2
  • Your collaboration and eCommerce recommendations from Week 3
  • Your project security plan from Week 4
  • A GANTT-type chart in your paper to illustrate the project schedule

Running head: ERP BUSINESS PROJECT Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Implementation Project 1 ERP BUSINESS PROJECT 2 Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System Implementation Project Brief Profile about This Project I intend to create and install an effective enterprise system that will automate many of key business functions within my organization. Automation of all daily business functions will be focused in key areas such as supply chain management, logistics, finance, accounting, production distribution and human resource management (Ahmed, March 29, 2015). This project is meant to serve as a backbone information system that will enable my company achieve agility, efficiency, responsiveness being essential for a dynamic business environment and ensure that my company is able to obtain a unique competitive advantage as compared to my business competitors in the same industry. This system will be collecting data from various sects of the company and store it in central position for easy access; for making informed decisions within the organization. An ERP system at my company will be resolving problems of fragmented redundant data sets and systems; enhancing a situation where my company will be able to have real time processing of business activities and other essential tasks; without incurring huge economic costs. An ERP system will be performing the following key functions; coordination of daily business activities, real time response to customer order and provision of valuable information for streamlining management; and decision making process within the organization (Shaul & Tauber, 2012). Reason for Implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System There are numerous merits that are associated with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System for any company that is focused with attaining a unique competitive edge within ERP BUSINESS PROJECT 3 any industry. As well opined by various scholars and managers in the field of business and finance, ERP system plays a significant role in improving quality and efficiency of service delivery within the company. This is attained by creating a framework for integrating and improving internal processes such as customer service delivery and access of financial records in a secure and user friendly manner. It reduces costs by a huge margin. For example, all process costs, hardware, software and IT support staff are decreased significantly as compared to nonintegrated legacy systems within any organization (Ahmed, March 29, 2015). Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System support informed decision making process within any organization. This is made possible by provision of vital cross-functional information that is used by management of any company to address issues such as stiff competition caused by other business competitors, discharge of quality services to esteemed customers, aiding in employee compensation and motivation practices initiated within the organization, improving the image of the organization to the public and finally ensuring that there is in place a well designed corporate social responsibility program (Ahmed, March 29, 2015). Another compelling reason for initiating an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System is because of the culture of coordinating key departments within the company such as human resource management, quality assurance and standards, auditing, and procurement among others. These are just but a few advantages that are associated with implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System. I feel that by implementing this, my company will be able to address many business needs in a timely manner. The entire process of managing current workforce is highly improved with design and implementation of an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System within business organizations (Almajali, 2016). ERP BUSINESS PROJECT 4 ERP and Company Betterment As already opined in the above section, Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System will make my company different from others. Being an electronic service and product provider within the United States, I will be able to streamline internal communication channels, deliver products to the target customers in a reasonable time frame and be able to enhance effectiveness in service delivery. Public image is going to be streamlined by this Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System as compared to other business partners that have failed to embrace it. Consequences of not embracing an ERP System Project I am fully convinced that lack of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System within my company will result to the following nauseating business outcomes: delayed production process, compromised communication channels, succumbing to dark forces of business competitors, lack of proper coordination of the activities within my company and finally jeopardized efforts of realizing a competitive edge in the business industry of selling electronic products. It is prudent to be aware that Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) System has the following challenges: requiring complex technology to be build, huge financial costs incurred during the roll out phase and difficult to build it. However, I request the board to approve my project in a period of not more than six months from this date of submission. ERP BUSINESS PROJECT 5 References Ahmed, F. (March 29, 2015). I emphasized on the need to have a working ERP program that will streamline all business functions within the organization. As argued by Thomson (2015), every organization functions like a system. This is to say that every organization function is linked to the others. For example, production as a function is linked to other functions like marketing and human resource management. A firm’s production department works on orders that are received my marketing department. The size of these orders determines number of people to be hired in the production team. By understanding this, one can clearly say that there is a reason to have one robust system that links all organization functions. By having this system, it is possible to coordinate organizational functions in order to achieve one goal. This paper illustrates the intended data communication systems for creating the ERP system. The researcher will elaborate on communication functionality of the system and how it will be able to achieve the intended purpose. Finally, the researcher will recommend on the project planning methodology that will be used to come up with the system. Data communication refers to the process of transferring data from one source top another (Allen, 2016). In order to determine an effective data communication model to apply in a project, there are some questions that one needs to ask him or herself. Firstly, it is important to understand who will be the data transmitter. This is the person who will be charged with the responsibility of entering data into the system. In many ERP cases, there is a data manager who is responsible for the entire system. Such a manager determines which data should be transmitted into the system at any given time. System administrator works closely with management to 3 control data transfer and access. The other important question is on data recipient. One needs to understand the levels of involvement for all parties into the system. After determining data origin and destination, the next step is to determine data communication networks that will be applied to achieve intended purpose. In our case, there are different data communication types that will be applied in different situations. There are those instances that the management communicates to junior employees without any intention of getting responses from them. Such instances include when management wants to pass certain directives to employees. In these cases, the ERP will be programmed using simplex data communication. This according to Allen (2016) is a data communication mode that sends data in one way within a network. This mode is recommended for communication instances where the main motive is to give directions without expecting and response (Thomson, 2015). In a case where there will be interaction between network users, full duplex data communication will be applied. According to Allen (2016), this is a data communication mode where network users interact simultaneously within a network. This is very useful in horizontal communication. For instance, when production manager wants to communicate with other departmental managers in order to organize on how to meet a certain order, this is the best communication mode. Creation of ERP within this organization will be treated as a project. The most effective project planning methodology for the ERP project is critical path methodology. As pointed out by Zack (2017), this is a methodology where core elements of a project are classified and listed in the critical chain. Using this approach, resources are allocated in such a manner that tasks in the critical chain and other tasks can be run concurrently. In the ERP project, the most important steps are to come up with an enterprise management system that is web hosted. The system 4 should be adequately secured to curb any case of unauthorized access. These are the critical paths. The issues of data communication models and other technicalities of the system are additional features that should be run concurrently. The goal of project planning is to ensure that all project teams are bound together by project goals. By taking a project management approach using critical path model, the organization will be able to allocate resources adequately into the project. This is because the model starts by prioritizing activities depending on relevance within the project. Secondly, this approach helps in project assessment. It is possible to evaluate specific section of the project. The company also needs to ensure that it has created a good environment for all the employees in the organization so that they can deliver their best. A business, therefore, needs to collaborate e-commerce techniques and information technology to ensure that the above players are useful in ensuring the continuity of the company. The collaboration is essential since there is no single system available that can provide all the information that is required in an organization. The information is vital in decision making which is a crucial art of the business. Collaboration ensures that systems work together to achieve the common goals of the organization. It also involves bringing together two or more individuals in an organization to perform a given task. Collaboration does not necessarily mean that the two colleagues will have to interact face to face, but with the adjustment in technology, there are more ways of bringing employee together. The ways include audio conferencing and video conferencing. These are information technology techniques that can be applied to business together with e-commerce. The aim of bringing two colleagues together is so that they can exchange ideas and brainstorm to come up with the best strategies to carry out business. Having a forum where many employees who are not necessarily in the same geographical area can interact is a benefit to the business. It helps the business have many ideas as the ideas are contributed by a large number of individuals. The ideas are after that evaluated, and the best are chosen. The use of information technology and e-commerce, in this case, will lead to better decisions being made. The collaboration will boost the employees’ morale in the business. When employees are given an opportunity to video conference with the management, it boosts their confidence. The 3 E-COMMERCE employees also gain a sense of belonging and hence they become more productive in the business. Collaboration also makes it easy to get feedback from the customers. The aim of the company as said earlier is to ensure that the customer is satisfied. When a customer gets to engage in a computer-mediated communication with an employee in the organization, it gives them a sense of being valued by the organization. This will not only attract more customers but also maintain the already existing ones. The company also gets to guide their customers on how different processes are carried out, e.g., how to use a particular item. There are different types of e-commerce techniques that are available and can be applied to business to ensure its success. The first is ensuring that the e-commerce to be put in place is up-to-date with the universal trends. A business that needs to be successful with e-commerce needs to ensure that it is updated and is in line with the current trends. Content marketing also needs to be a critical technique. A business that intends to venture to e-commerce must be ready to give content to the customers. This is done through the creation and also ensuring there is new and available information for the customer about your organization (Qin, 2010). Social media marketing is another e-commerce technique. This involves communication with your customers and the general public in a personal way. This is a critical area since it is important for the company to maintain consistency when it comes to this area. The consistency of the company is what will create confidence in the public who will later become your customers. A company intending to use this technique must also have the necessary mechanism to measure the impact of this type of marketing. The company needs to know whether they are achieving anything (Qureshi, 2016). 4 E-COMMERCE The technique that I would apply to the project is social media marketing. With this technique, it is possible for the company to interact regularly with their customers on the various platforms. The company has a quick way of passing information on their product to the customers. The company also gets immediate feedback on their products from the customers. It is easy to address issues which boost the customer's esteem and hence facilitating the increase in the business (Djoleto, 1970). 5 E-COMMERCE References Djoleto, W. (1970). This data includes personal ID information, financial data, and intellectual property among others (Hendrawirawan et al., 2007). Some of the internal and external security threats to the project’s ERP include: 1. Unpatched Software, the complexity of the ERP decelerates the detection and patching of the system hence making it a security issues. An attacker can exploit any of these unpatched vulnerabilities and gain access to the financial data. 2. Poor Configuration, failure to properly configure and setup the ERP can be a great security risk. This opens the door for cyber-attacks because the security of the system is casually set up. Thee configuration vulnerabilities include unlocked credentials for the access parameter and open ports. 3. Outdated web interfaces, these have popularized the use of the web-based attacks such as XSRF and XSS as well as the common SQL injection. This is caused by the use of old web framework that is vulnerable to newer modes of attacks. 4. Inadequate access control, this bears the system mostly to internal attacks because any employee can access the systems financial records (Allen, 2008). The data can also be edited hence compromising the integrity of the ERP Security and threat prevention technology The risk of patching is high hence the best technology to use is the virtual patching, the best way to through with it is through updating the intrusion-prevention system filters configuration for blocking any attacks that try to use the system vulnerabilities (Allen, 2008). The use of updated web interface through using the latest technology is also essential for the system to INFORMATION SECURITY 3 ward of newer threats. Better access control methodologies will also be implemented; these include the use of biometrics for different level access in the system. This will ensure that only the allocated people will have access to the financial data as well as other critical company information (Hendrawirawan et al., 2007). Lastly, during the configuration, the proper configuration will be done to ensure that the attack surface is small. INFORMATION SECURITY 4 References Allen, V. (2008).
