There are many women discussed in the textbook who committed violent crimes of murder and malicious wounding including Lorena Bobbitt and Andrea Yates. Discuss if you believe these two women are responsible for their actions. Why or Why Not?
From a non- legal point of view, I say they are responsible for their actions. Legally, I think the law condemns violent acts committed by women and children in self- defense. They are both not responsible because they were forced and entrapped to commit the act under 'irresistible impulse'. Moreover, they had been psychologically battered through chronic abuse and had the right to use lawful force to protect themselves from domestic violence. It was a crime of vengeance as free moral agents who had been suffering in silence from abusers. They could differentiate between right and wrong at the time of the crime but were suffering from cognitive disorder or mental disease that made them incapable of controlling their action. On the whole, their actions were justified.
