Let speed of 1hiker be x mph and other be y mph.

Then, Time taken to walk 12miles towards each other=12/(x+y)

12/(x+y)=2

x+y=6 ………………(1)

Also,

x=y+1.6 ……………(2)

Solving both equation.

Speed of one hiker, x=2.2 mph

speed of other hiker,y=2.2+1.6=3.8 mph
