1. Describe the consumerism that developed in America during the early twentieth century,
especially after World War I.
America Consumerism rose in the 1920s that was after the World War1in a historical period
referred to as Roaring Twenties. During this era, consumerism increased because of the
inventions, innovative ideas, technical advancements made in manufacturing, communication
and transport sectors. During this period America advanced from its traditional means of
refraining from debts to the strategies of buying services and goods on credit instalments.
Moreover, there was an increase in marketing techniques and mass advertising through radio and
newspapers, and this brought forth sales increase through the use of easy consume credit. In the
roaring twenties ear, more than sixty percent of Americans purchased their automobiles on
credit. People never worried about debts since they believe that the stock market and America
were too powerful to be defeated. After WW1 technology advanced and America entered the age
of electricity and steel where industries moved from using coal power to electricity. After the
introduction of materialism and consumerism, there were immense changes in culture and
lifestyles and this age was associated with consumerism, modernism, decadence and
