An example of a simple generator is the use of a hand-crank flashlight. The generator inside converts the energy you give to the flashlight (mechanical) from cranking the handle to produce the light (electrical energy).
A simple generator is also used as an example in some advanced physics labs as the students can make motors and generators from magnetic wire with magnets or a battery (from experience).
