A rectangular field is 36m x 16m. A person wants to fence a square field that has the same area as the rectangular field. How long are the sides of the square field?

Length of rectangular field, l = 36 m

Wiidth of rectangular field, w = 16 m

Area of rectangular field = l*w = 36*16 = 576 m^2

Let the side of  the square field be a.

Area of square field = a^2

Given,

Area of square field = Area of rectangular field

$a^2=576\\ \\ a=\sqrt{576}\\ \\ a=24\hspace{5}m$

So the sides of the square field are 24 m long.
