Introduction
Job satisfaction is an important Human Resource function that has immense contribution
to the overall performance of an organization. Just like other HR functions such as management
and leadership, job satisfaction dictates the loyalty of the workers and their commitment to the
organization. Employees are rarely satisfied with their jobs. However, this trend is taking twist
and the effects of the change are being felt everywhere. According to an article by Brisk on the
Villanova University website, there was a rise in the number of people who said they are
satisfied with their current job from 81 per cent in 2013 to 88 per cent in 2016 (The Importance
of Job Satisfaction in Today’s Workforce, 2017). The article was based on the Employee Job
Satisfaction and Engagement Report conducted by the Society of Human Resource Management.
Job satisfaction is an important aspect that dictates the loyalty and commitment of employees
(Bisk). This paper seeks to outline job satisfaction, looking into details at its importance and the
connection it has with loyalty and commitment of the employee. Some of the importances of job
satisfaction include but are not limited to higher productivity, lower turnover, increased profits,
customer satisfaction, improving the working conditions, and loyalty.
Job satisfaction is the feeling of contentment and being happy with the job that one is
involved in. Job satisfaction depends with an individual. The aspects that contribute to a person’s
satisfaction might not be the same aspects that will contribute to job satisfaction of another
person (Eid, 2013). The working conditions which employees are subjected to affecting their job
satisfaction a lot. Working conditions is a collective umbrella that has in it aspects such as trust,
