A car is traveling down the freeway at a speed of 80.0 mph passes a police car traveling at 60.0 mph. the driver slows down at the rate of -2.30 mph per second. the police car accelerates at the rate of 3.40 mph per second to pursue the speeding car. At what speed will they be traveling when they reach the same speed?

Speed = Acceleration x time

For their speeds to be equal:

80 - 2.3t = 60 + 3.4t

5.7t = 20

t = 3.5 seconds
