MORALS AND POP CULTURE

2
Introduction

Every country was founded on some well-specified values. These are what driven the
forefathers in the struggle so that every person could afford to live a better life in the society.
They fought for the freedom and well-being of any other citizen within the spatial boundaries of
their country. In this same manner, a close research and study show that America was founded
on Christian values and morals. The teachings of the Christianity work to promote the cohesion
and understanding one another. People are taught how to leave with their neighbors well, how to
obey, and the value of living one another as you love yourself, respect, generosity, obedience and
many more. In fact, they are well summarized in the Ten Commandments and other books as
well. All these and much more describe the moral standards by which we should live in the
society (Luke, 2007). The morals are the differentiation of various decisions, intentions, and
actions. In simple terms, pop culture is defined as; “contemporary accepted civilization
broadcasted through media such as television lineups or programs, movies with an objective of
specific adolescent individuals in the society.” It is revealed that transversely separate
investigation carried out endorse the young people are ultimately affected by Pop Culture and
similarly the largest user of popular culture. There is what people believe to be right to do while
others are considered to be improper at different levels. Religious and cultural beliefs are closely
attached to this and are taken to be playing a very important role in what an individual or group
of people believe to be either right or wrong. The pop culture is made up various attitudes,
images, ideas, perspectives and many more phenomena in the mainstream of a given culture.
However, most of the people do not behave in the manner that is morally upright. In fact,
some studies have questioned the behaviors of some people if they are really from the religious
backgrounds. A good example is where some children with religious upbringing have shown less

altruism and even worse behaviors that are not considered to be morally upright. A big question
that has been debated on at different levels is what leads to the immoral behaviors? The society
of today has stayed away from the liberal values and traditional values. Many factors are thought
to have contributed to this. One of the factors that are thought of to contribute to the morals in
the modern society is the popular culture, commonly referred to as pop culture (Docker, 1994).
This is mainly the western culture in the emerging global mainstream of the 21st century and the
late 20th century. It is a collection of the different modern ideas and mostly influenced by the
mass media. In fact, it is the exact thing that permeates the day to day lives of the society that we
inhabit. The pop culture can be explained in quite some categories, and these include things such
entertainment where we have movies, television, music, and video games. Others are politics,
fashion, slang, technology, sports and news such as people and places. Pop culture is what drives
most activities in the society and can influence the attitudes of an individual towards a given
topic. This paper comprehensively discusses the various aspects of the pop culture and how the
popular culture relates to some morals within the society.
Examples of the pop culture and consumption
The pop culture comes from a wide range of genres within the society. This is especially
in the era that various technological advancements are taking place and people are migrating
from the analog ways of doing things to the digital technologies (Fiske, 2010). They include the
various pop music, cyber culture, print, music, entertainment, fads, leisure, television, and
advertising. Among these examples, the most widely consumed in different parts of the world are
the television and radio. Sports have also been arguably referred to as the most commonly
consumed pop culture in the whole world. The discussion majorly takes a keen interest in the
entertainment part of the pop culture specifically the television and radio.

A large percentage of the world population consumes different programs that are aired on
the televisions. Television is an electronic device which makes up a system of transmitting
moving objects or transient images together with sound, and this is done over the wire or through
the space by appliances that can convert both sound and light into the form of electrical waves
which are then converted into audible sound and visible lights. Billions of people get accessed to
the televisions and watch it occasionally or on a daily basis. It is very common in the
contemporary world where it can even be difficult to imagine a person somewhere surviving
without it. The radios are other aspects of the pop culture that existed for quite long. The radios
came before the televisions, and they got popularity (Shuker, 2016). Radios are other forms of
the mass media that reach quite some people in different regions of the world. The geographical
coverage of the radio is very wide, and this is why it reaches a huge population in a given time.
They are also generally cheap compared to the televisions, and this ...
