Question Description

A split sentence is one in which a juvenile is waived to adult court and then given a juvenile sanction and an adult sanction. If the offender fails the juvenile sanction, he or she will automatically be given the adult punishment.

The objectives of the juvenile justice system were traditionally the rehabilitation of juveniles.
The juvenile court is regarded as the common guardian of youth and is tasked with ensuring that
the best interests of juveniles are considered in the determination of proper disposition of legal
cases (Ozkan, 2016). People adjudicated in the juvenile system were not exposed to similar
punitive measures and stringent sentences that were pervasive in adult court. Owing to a rise in
