INTRODUCTION
In this experiment, the simple harmonic motion will be studied. A spring-mass system will be
analyzed and the relationship between forces (F), spring constant (k) and displacement (y)
explored. It is important to note that most springs obey Hooke’s Law, which states that force
applied to the spring is directly proportional to its displacement from its equilibrium position.
That is,

Simple harmonic motion occurs when the force described by the above equation produces an
oscillatory motion by vibrating back and forth around the spring-mass system equilibrium
